Our Principal - Mr. Steven Will
Innovation Middle School Community,
I am excited to start another year as the principal of Innovation
Middle School and consider it a privilege to serve the school and the
community. I am honored by the trust the community and school district
have placed in me, and I am looking forward to a great start of the 2022-2023 school year.
My motivation as an educator stems from a passion for developing
innovative educational practices with a strong focus on student learning and
engagement. I am pleased to be able to continue this work at Innovation
Middle School. My 29-year career started as a middle school teacher,
where I taught mathematics, science, technology classes, digital arts,
animation, yearbook, and media broadcasting. During that time, I won the San
Diego Mathematics Teacher of the Year in 2011 for innovative practices. I
then served as an Instructional Coach in the Educational Technology department,
supporting teachers with creating innovative and impactful learning
environments for their students. Finally, I served as an administrator for
Riverview International Academy, an immersion school.
Much of my strength, support, and inspiration comes from my
family. My wife, Kristen, is a teacher of 20 years and has the same
passion for student learning. Education is often our topic of discussion,
whether we are camping, mountain biking, or relaxing at home. My
two children, Tanner 25 and Bailey 22, are out on their own pursuing their own
paths in engineering and fashion design.
I am proud to be the principal of Innovation Middle School because
I believe in the school's vision. To prepare our students, we must provide them
with powerful learning experiences. I believe the STEAM-focused education at
Innovation Middle is the best way to provide these learning experiences and
develop each student's creativity, innovation, and character. I am thankful
each day for the opportunity to work with like-minded educators in developing
the potential of our students through engaging, challenging, and meaningful
learning.
I strongly believe in establishing positive relationships and
cohesion with staff, students, parents, and the community. I've always
found working closely with teachers, supporting and guiding them toward
collaborative, innovative instructional change, is the best path for students
and their future. You have my commitment to work alongside you to build
strong relationships and cohesive culture. Together we can expand the
excellent programs in place and continually strive to enhance our school and
what we do for students.
